I remember when I was young we used to have Sunday dinner which would be roast potatoes with lamb or chicken, macaroni cheese and coleslaw, with mums home made fruit punch.   In the background we would be playing ‘Tighten Up -Reggae’ Volumes, John Holt, Toots and the Maytals, Bob Marley and a snippet of Elvis, Brook Benton and Connie Francis on the gram.  This was known as ‘Sunday Dinner’ great music, great food, sharing, talking together.

Sunday Dinner is where we listened to ‘back home’ stories, the stories behind the music, how dad used to scramble with friends to get the coconut that fell from a tree and wild adventures swimming in the river.  How many young people nowadays sit round the dinner table, even at breakfast much less dinner?  This may be a factor as to why so many aspects of our culture is lost and diluted and respect for elders and each other lost.

Food for thought perhaps.
